Larissa Ione Giveaway Signed Copy of Immortal Rider

Monday, October 17, 2011

Sexy, powerful, and immortal, Limos is on a crash course with destiny. She’s been marked as Satan’s bride and her jealous fiancĂ© wants her all to himself. The only way this Horseman can keep herself—and everyone else—safe is to keep her distance. But not even Limos can save herself from the secrets she’s kept . . . or resist the seductive allure of one very brave human.

Arik Wagner knows the saying “love hurts” better than most, yet he never thought stealing a kiss from Limos would land him in Hell. Literally. It takes all his military training to survive the demon torture, but once he’s topside, Arik realizes that the agony has just begun. With the Apocalypse looming and Satan demanding his bride, will Arik and Limos surrender to the desire smoldering between them? Or will giving in to their passion unleash hell on earth?

Special Ops With Fangs – The Same…But Different

Have you heard the phrase, “the same but different?”  It’s what writers are often told to write if they want to be published.  The kind of story that publishing houses already know readers are currently hot for, yet different enough that it’ll stand out in a crowded market.

The Cunning Folk

Imagine a beautiful woman being searched for minor body imperfections that would prove she was a witch. This scene was played out all across Europe. In North America, most people think of Salem, but in truth the first witch trial held on the continent took place in Virginia. As a Virginia resident, I was intrigued to learn more, and the premise became the basis for my paranormal/historical novel, The Dreaming: Walks Through Mist.

Some of those accused of being witches were the cunning folk. "Cunning folk" was the term used in English society, but throughout Europe, they were practitioners of many arts, including healing, treasure seeking, finding lost property, fortune telling, and, of course, love magic. Also known as wise men/women, conjurers, and wizards, they were well regarded members of the community, but in many cases that respect likely bordered on fear.

What do Egyptian mummies and home buying have in common?

Crazy question, right? But the more research I do in Egyptian burial rituals for Soul Reborn and in purchasing our next home, the question doesn’t seem so crazy. In writing Soul Reborn, Book 1 in the Key to the Cursed series, I had to conduct a sufficient amount of research on Egyptian mythos, specifically the afterlife and how Ancient Egyptian’s prepared for their rebirth. Are you seeing the similarity to home buying yet? If not, you will soon.

Ancient Egyptians had a fairly complex view of the soul and life beyond death. Death was not the end. It was only the beginning. Egyptians spent significant wealth and resources investing in their death and burial plan, as the return on investment came tenfold, ensuring their safe passage to the paradise isle of the underworld (30 year loan mortgage for ultimate dream home). It was imperative to have a top notch embalmer to represent them at death. (Realtor) These priests were paid top dollar to ensure a proper burial was completed, to include location, and tomb contents. (bank loan & closing costs). In preparing for one’s death and rebirth the tomb was loaded with all the essentials, servants, furniture, pets, wealth, food etc… (Adequate Square footage with large pantry). And a protection plan, curses and spells that protected the tomb from looters (security system). And most importantly, incantations from the Book of the Dead and plenty of wealth to pay their way through the underworld (Homeowners insurance). If you failed to prepare properly and lacked resources, the soul would not be rejoined with its body and could be denied entrance into the afterlife (not qualifying for loan).

So you see, mummies and home buying are not that dissimilar. Buying a home is an excellent investment. It is exciting but stressful and requires significant resources and forethought. Your dream home will be filled with all your worldly treasures to enjoy in your new life. What would your dream home/afterlife look like? What would you take with you?

How historical romance found me
By: Scarlett Scott

I’ve been reading romance since I was a tween. Of course, back then romance novels were forbidden by my mother, who was not entirely unaware of the steamy material lurking in their pages and made it clear she did not approve. So I did what any romance loving girl in a bind would do and resorted to sneaking into my sister’s room, swiping a paperback off the shelves, and hiding it in my closet for clandestine consumption.

Since I was limited in my early reading days to whatever I could thieve from my sister, I fell into historical romances by default. But I fell in love with them just the same. I stayed up late into the night devouring Kat Martin and Lisa Kleypas historicals. Who needed sleep, I reasoned, when you could be wooed by a rake or seduced by a notorious duke? Definitely not me. (And let’s not even talk about the giant crush I still, to this day, harbor for the evilly sexy Nikolas in Prince of Dreams. I swoon.)

Is the Wolf-ness Sexy or the Power?

Hello Readers,

My name is Kate Early and I am one for the authors from the Ravenous Romance anthology "Werewolves in Love" cause hey - werewolves need love too!

Now I was thinking about werewolves when I wrote about the two men that make up Enforcing Will, which makes sense. And I had to decide what kind of wolves they would be. Half man half wolf? full wolf? Both? It is hard to decide, so I thought about what is sexy and great about being a werewolf.

Working Out Inner Demons Through Fiction Writing
By Roxanne Rhoads

Psychologists have long touted the therapeutic effects of journal writing but as a fiction writer I can honestly say that fiction writing can be just as therapeutic and a heck of a lot more fun.

I discovered this quite by accident.

Vamps, Weres and Daemons, Oh, My!

First off, I want to say, thank you! to Jojo for the inviting me to hang out here today!

Now to chat about the above mentioned title. So what floats your boat?  Vampires, weres, daemons?

I always thought I was a vampire girl, and while I still am, I fell in love with my lycan brothers, Rafael and Lucien, while writing BLOOD LAW, the first book in my Blood Moon trilogy series.  It goes without saying that Marcus Cross, the vampire hero of ENEMY LOVER, L.O.S.T. book one (written as Karin Harlow), defines the phrase, Please-dear-God-make-him-take-me-NOW-before-I-explode-into-a-pile-of-unrequited-lust. Yep, Marcus is one hot vampire.  He and his lady-love, Jax, make a reappearance in ENEMY MINE, book two in the L.O.S.T. series.

Guest Post: Laura Kreitzer on Phantom Universe & Human Trafficking

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Hello Literary-Folk!

My name is Laura Kreitzer, and I’m the author of the Timeless Series and the Summer Chronicles. This week I would like to alert everyone on a colossal crisis that’s gone unnoticed in the world: human trafficking. That’s why I’ve asked hundreds of blogs to be involved with spreading the word on this issue that’s become close to my heart.

As an author, and someone whose life is put in the spotlight, I keep most people at a distance. Only a handful of my friends know the whole me and the events from my past. But this week I’d like to share with you a part of myself that the outside world doesn’t see (and a part of me I don’t like to share). I was emotionally abused for five years by someone I thought loved me, my mind beaten into submission. Though the turmoil I went through doesn’t penetrate as deep as someone forced into slavery on the worldwide market for human trafficking, I can sadly relate in some ways: imprisoned, my life dictated down to what I wore, ate, where I went, whom I spoke to, where I worked, when I slept, bending to his every whim. He did not sway, even when I cried through some of the more traumatic things he had me do. I was a slave in my own home. In my desperation for freedom, I held out a gun and asked him to just end my suffering. I was desperate.

Darklands Blog Tour with Author Donna Burgess + Giveaway

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Happy Saturday everyone! Today I have special Guest Author Donna Burgess, of the Darklands Blog Tour, Hosted By: Bewitching Book Tours

I want to thank JoJo for having me on her awesome site today. This blog tour has been a lot of fun, and for most of the guest posts, I've discussed one of my favorite things--vampires. But, as I have gotten more involved with the world of e-publishing and primarily, independent publishing, I've realized what an incredible community of writers there is out there. Over the past couple of months, I've become one of those people who constantly talks up the reasons for “going indie” rather than seeking traditional publication. Today's self-published author is no longer viewed as the un-publishable hack of a decade ago. Especially, now that royalty checks can actually pay bills and the books are so easily found (many on bestseller lists of their particular category). It feels good to control one's destiny.

Not only are these “renegade” authors (okay, they're not really renegade, but it sounds cool) talented, they are also supportive of one another. And best things an already-published author can do is offer advice to new authors and those who think they'd like to begin writing a book someday. So, here I go:
